MY VERY FIRST DEAD SHOW
I'm sure this show probably doesn't stand out much in the eyes & ears of most heads but this was THE SHOW that started things off for me. I really do wish I had got turned on to a Dead show about 10 years earlier! I was 20 years old when I saw this show & even though I had been into psychedelics for about 8 years, I had never gotten off on any shrooms. I had tried shrooms twice before but felt nothing & had no visuals. When I got to this show, a really good friend of mine, David Eikert, that had gotten tix with us showed up & told me he had a half ounce of shrooms. He told me I could have half of them if I compensated him later. So I said "OK, sure." He knew I was good for it & that I always had really good weed at the time. So I ate half of the half right then & there. It took about twenty to thirty mins for me to start feeling the effects. Luckily, I had eaten them about 15 mins b4 the show started. So about 3 songs into the 1st set these purple & orange swirls start coming out of the speakers. But they weren't just swirling they were bouncing too. And it didn't take long b4 I couldn't see the stage. So the first time I ever got off on mushrooms was at my first Dead show. I know I probably seen close to a hundred concerts at the Omni & I came close to crying when the tore it down. I saw many, many great & wonderful shows there. My very first concert ever was there- ACDC when I was in the 6th grade. After 88, I missed one Dead show at the Omni in 89 but never missed another Dead show at the Omni afterwards. And I moved away from Atlanta in 1990. And just to explain why I'm giving this show a 5 star rating. Jerry was there and he played that night. He passed away in 95 & it's been almost 25 years since I saw the man play. So in my personal opinion, if Jerry was there it was a 5 star show!
